At the Great Lakes College of Toronto, strong health and nutrition habits are essential for academic success and personal growth. For over 40 years, our private high school has been committed to offering personalized education that prepares students for university and equips them to thrive in every aspect of life.

Are you considering joining our community? Understanding our approach to health and nutrition could reveal the depth of care we provide to ensure the well-being of our diverse student body. In this blog, we look closer at the intersection of wellness and achievement!

Creating a Healthy Environment for Learning

The link between nutrition and academic performance is well-documented. A well-balanced diet supports concentration, memory, and energy levels, which are vital for excelling in our rigorous academic programs. At GLCT, we prioritize providing nutritious meals to students through our cafeteria, which operates year-round.

Offering three daily meals from Monday to Friday, we ensure students can access fresh, balanced meal options catering to various dietary needs and preferences. This thoughtful approach to food fosters physical well-being and the mental clarity required for success in our Grade 9 to 12 and University Preparation programs.

Holistic Support for a Global Student Body

With students from 65 countries, GLCT proudly provides a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels at home. Nutrition plays a key role in ensuring that students from diverse cultural and dietary backgrounds have their needs met.

With different meal options available each day, the cafeteria at our private high school promotes variety to reflect this diversity. It creates a space where students can explore new tastes while also enjoying familiar dishes. Nutritional diversity is known to support positive health outcomes.

Promoting Wellness in a Fast-Paced Academic Setting

The fast-track nature of our academic programs requires students to maintain focus and resilience. With five intake times per school year, our students can pursue their education on a timeline that works for them.

However, the accelerated pace can be demanding, making it all the more important for students to have consistent access to healthy meals. Proper nutrition supports their ability to adapt to this challenging environment while managing stress effectively.

At GLCT, we also recognize that education extends beyond academics. Our commitment to health and wellness is part of a broader strategy to prepare students for overall fulfillment. By promoting good nutrition and fostering self-care habits, we teach students the importance of maintaining balance and prioritizing well-being as they pursue ambitious academic and career goals.

Building Habits for Long-Term Success

Our cafeteria services are part of a comprehensive strategy to instill lifelong health and wellness habits in our students. These habits are essential as students transition to post-secondary education, where independence and self-reliance become critical.

The skills students develop during their time at our fast-track university prep school, such as managing their nutrition, maintaining their physical and mental health, and staying organized, all poise students for success in university and beyond. With 96% of our graduating students attending post-secondary institutions and 81% receiving scholarships, it’s clear that GLCT’s holistic approach works.

Whether through our academic programs, English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, or summer camp tours, we prepare students to lead in a globalized world while prioritizing their well-being. At GLCT, we’re preparing students to lead happy, healthy, and successful lives.
